Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crockpot
- Line the crockpot: Use parchment paper to line the bottom and sides of your slow cooker for easy removal later.
Step 2: Make the Caramel
- Melt butter and sugar: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter and brown sugar. Stir until melted and bring to a gentle boil. Allow it to boil for about 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly until it becomes a smooth caramel sauce.
Step 3: Assemble the Ingredients
- Layer the crackers: Place a layer of saltine crackers at the bottom of the crockpot.
- Pour caramel: Drizzle half of the caramel mixture over the crackers, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Add more crackers: Add another layer of saltine crackers on top, followed by the remaining caramel sauce.
Step 4: Add the Chocolate
- Top with chocolate chips: Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the top. You can also add chopped nuts if desired.
- Cover and cook: Place the lid on the crockpot and cook on low for 2 hours. After about 1 hour, you can gently stir to help the chocolate melt evenly.
Step 5: Cool and Set
- Remove and cool: Once the cooking time is up, turn off the crockpot and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Set in the fridge: Carefully lift the parchment paper out of the crockpot and transfer it to a baking sheet. Refrigerate for about 1-2 hours or until fully set.
- Break into pieces: Once set, break the mixture into bite-sized pieces.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
- Store: Store your Crockpot Christmas Crack in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.
- Enjoy: Share with friends and family or keep it all to yourself—it’s the perfect festive treat!
